Microscopy & Graphics

The Microscopy and Graphics Unit is a core facility within the School of Biological Sciences and our services are available to anyone within the School or by arrangement, to users from outside SBS or the University.

The staff of the Microscopy & Graphics Unit are a friendly bunch who are lucky enough to enjoy their work. So they are more than happy to help you, practically or with advice, in those aspects of your work that involve microscopy, graphics and imaging.

Our aim is to meet your needs for obtaining images, whether of molecules or mountains, film or digitally-acquired or hand-drawn, and to allow you to manipulate these images and output them in the form you desire.

In general, our staff can carry out small projects in histology and microscopy on behalf of staff and students, where it is cost and time efficient to do so. Most photography and graphic art work is also carried out by our staff on a partial cost recovery basis . However, where time permits we train users in some of the more involved procedures such as histological preparation and electron microscopy. This eventually makes the research both more efficient and more enjoyable. In addition, the users emerge with useful skills for their CVs.

You can find us in room 152 on Level 1 of the Thomas Building (Bld 110), in the southwest corner, nearest to the University Clock Tower.
